Kennedy Coffee Open This Week

By popular demand, Kennedy Espress Coffee has agreed to open for the summer on a trial basis from 7:30 a.m. – 11 a.m., Monday-Thursday.

The duration will depend on your support. Their regular menu will be available. They are also available to provide coffee service for any of your meetings.

Summer Exercise Classes; Enroll Today

If you have been considering registering for one of the summer exercise classes, please complete the process today by following the directions in the third paragraph.

Beginning Tuesday, June 3, through August 15 (10 weeks), NWACC employees have the opportunity to participate in three different exercise classes offered on campus in the Center for Health Professions. The YMCA classes are $60 for both classes for the entire 10 weeks and the Self Defense class is free! Employees can take either the YMCA Classes or the Self Defense course.

Employees who are interested in participating in exercise classes can register by completing and returning the attached Liability Waiver to Cassie McGarrrah, cmcgarrah@nwacc.edu. Checks should be made payable to the YMCA.

Below are the class details:
Yoga – Tuesday, 12:00-12:30; taught by YMCA in the Center for Health Professions 1037B
Self-Defense – Wednesday, 12:00-12:30; taught by Public Safety in the Center for Health Professions third floor
Sculpt – Thursday, 12:00-12:30; taught by YMCA in the Center for Health Professions 1037B

Definitions:
Yoga is a sequence of postures and stretches that are linked to the breath; it combines strength, rejuvenation, flexibility, and balance. Yoga benefits the mind, body and spirit!

In Self Defense, participants learn how to protect themselves from someone grabbing or punching them. The proper techniques to throw a punch, break grips and defend from being choked will also be taught.

Sculpt incorporates hand weights to increase muscular endurance and strength.

The Library will be open Mon-Thurs., 7 a.m.-8 p.m. and Fridays, 7 a.m.-5 p.m. Saturdays 9am-3pm and Sundays 1 p.m.-5 p.m.

The Library will be closed Monday, May 26 for Memorial Day and Friday, Saturday, and Sunday, July 4-6 for Independence Day weekend.

Deadline for TR-1 Reimbursement Forms

All TR-1 Reimbursement Forms must be received by Wednesday, June 18, 2014.

Please submit all FY 2014 TR-1 reimbursement forms no later than Wednesday, June 18, 2014. This includes travel reimbursements, mileage reimbursements and cell phone allowances. All of these expenses must be expensed in the fiscal year they were incurred.

Pre-Nursing Advisement Session

Please join the Nursing department on Wednesday June 18, from 1 p.m.-3 p.m. for our Pre-Nursing Student Advisement Session in the Center for Health Professions room 1013.

The Nursing Department strongly encourages all pre-nursing students or individuals interested in finding out more information about our Nursing program to attend. Please feel free to bring a guest or support person. Please do not bring young children. At the sessions, you will meet the Academic Advisor for Health Professions who will help guide you through the general education courses to get your ready to apply for admission to the Nursing program. Advising sessions are designed to help students meet the eligibility requirements of the Nursing Program.

Registration is not required. These are not drop-in sessions, so those attending are asked to please be on time. Students are encouraged to arrive 5-10 minutes ahead of time.

Study Watercolor in Italy with Carol Cooper this Summer
Ciao, amici! Join Carol Cooper, NWACC Art Instructor, at La Romita School of Art in Italy this summer for a 2-week watercolor workshop.
La Romita is a 300 year-old monastery that has become an art school. The experience is fantastico! Please visit the website (http://www.laromita.org/) to get an idea of the beautiful setting and to read about the monastery’s history and much more detailed information (FAQs) about Cooper’s workshop. The students are driven to a different hill town every day to paint and return each afternoon or evening to the peaceful monastery. The chapel is the studio space. The food at La Romita is worth the trip alone!
Participants wishing to obtain college credit can seek a course substitution through the Art Coordinator of the NWACC Art Department upon their return. The workshop can be substituted for Intro to Watercolor or Advanced Watercolor.

Please finalize your FY 2014 travel plans this month and submit all new requests to Diane Gower by May 28. Only emergencies will be considered after this date. All travel occurring after July 1 for FY 2015 will be processed beginning July 1, 2014, unless there is an early bird discount for completion prior to July 1.

Please submit all FY 2014 TR-1 reimbursement forms no later than Wednesday, June 18, 2014. This includes travel reimbursements, mileage reimbursements and cell phone allowances. All of these expenses must be expensed in the fiscal year they were incurred.

The Food Court in the Becky Paneitz Student Center is closed for the summer and will re-open on August 25, 2014, from 7:30 a.m. – 2:00 p.m., M-F.

THIS WEEK AT NWACC:

Summer Exercise Classes

Beginning Tuesday, May 27 through August 15 (11 weeks), NWACC employees have the opportunity to participate in three different exercise classes offered on campus in the Center for Health Professions. The YMCA classes are $60 for both classes for the entire 11 weeks and the Self Defense class is free! Employees can take either the YMCA Classes or the Self Defense course.

Employees who are interested in participating in exercise classes can register by completing and returning the attached Liability Waiver to Cassie McGarrrah, cmcgarrah@nwacc.edu. Checks should be made payable to the YMCA.

Yoga – Tuesday, 12:00-12:30; taught by YMCA in the Center for Health Professions 1037B
Self-Defense – Wednesday, 12:00-12:45; taught by Public Safety in the Center for Health Professions third floor
Sculpt – Thursday, 12:00-12:30; taught by YMCA in the Center for Health Professions 1037B

Definitions:
Yoga is a sequence of postures and stretches that are linked to the breath; it combines strength, rejuvenation, flexibility, and balance. Yoga benefits the mind, body and spirit!

In Self Defense, participants learn how to protect themselves from someone grabbing or punching them. The proper techniques to throw a punch, break grips and defend from being choked will also be taught.

Sculpt incorporates hand weights to increase muscular endurance and strength.

Food Court Closed for Summer Break

The Food Court in the Becky Paneitz Student Center is closed for the summer and will re-open on August 25, 2014, from 7:30 a.m. – 2:00 p.m., M-F.

Recharge-U will be open to serve you during the summer. Their summer hours are Monday- Thursday: 8 a.m.- 4:30 p.m. Recharge-U is closed on Fridays this summer.

Library Hours for Intersession and Summer Semester

May 10-May 25
The Library will be open Mon-Thurs., 8 a.m.-4:30 p.m. and Fridays, 8 a.m.- noon. Closed Saturdays and Sundays.

May 27-July 31
The Library will be open Mon-Thurs., 7 a.m.-8 p.m. and Fridays, 7 a.m.-5 p.m. Saturdays 9am-3pm and Sundays 1 p.m.-5 p.m.

Travel Requisition Deadlines for End of Fiscal Year 2014

All travel requisitions must be received by May 28, 2014.

Please finalize your FY 2014 travel plans this month and submit all new requests to Diane Gower by May 28. Only emergencies will be considered after this date. All travel occurring after July 1 for FY 2015 will be processed beginning July 1, 2014, unless there is an early bird discount for completion prior to July 1.

Please submit all FY 2014 TR-1 reimbursement forms no later than Wednesday, June 18, 2014. This includes travel reimbursements, mileage reimbursements and cell phone allowances. All of these expenses must be expensed in the fiscal year they were incurred.

S-Fest is a great family event, with an all-day concert of family oriented music wrapping up with Back Road Anthem at 3 p.m.

There will be lots of great activities for families, including bounce houses for children, bicycle obstacle course, bicycle giveaways, free skating passes, food trucks, free pet adoptions and much more.

Inside the Jones Center on May 17, the Center will be featuring $3 pay one price for the pool, rink, and gym. Please mark your calendar for Saturday, May 17, and come out to the Jones Center for a day full of family fun!
