ASC Summer II Information

The Academic Success Center (ASC) is here to support you and your students! We wanted to take this opportunity share with you the many resources we have available in the ASC to support student success throughout the summer.

What do we offer? 

  • Tutoring is available at both the Bentonville Campus (BH) and the Washington County Center (WCC). The Summer II tutoring schedule is attached.
  • Online Tutoring is available to students by appointment our hours of operation (Monday-Thursday, 8 a.m.-6 p.m.). Students requesting an online tutoring session, would need to call 479-619-4241 or email: success@nwacc.edu.
  • Success Advising: If you have students who are struggling academically, with life, etc., please feel free to refer them to our offices. We want to be supportive and offer assistance when needed.
  • Full service computer lab is available Monday-Thursday, 8 a.m.-6 p.m. We are currently piloting some new “cloud-based” software and soon to be looking at integrating a “print station” to better serve the students and reduce paper costs.
  • Students can purchase scantrons and check-out calculators, headsets, and textbooks for use in the ASC areas only.
  • Students can also book our study room through this page: http://library.nwacc.edu/studyrooms.html.
  • Classroom visits: if you would like for our staff to visit your class or classes to share this information, please let us know! We would be happy to do so.

Notice of Upcoming Work: Parking Lots of GBDC and SCWT

NWACC’s Physical Plant employees will be doing maintenance on the parking lots of the Shewmaker Center for Global Business Development & Shewmaker Center for Workforce Technologies July 31  through August 2. The parking lots will be closed for vehicle and foot traffic during that time.

Comics & Graphic Novels Class Offered

NWACC is offering a special English course in Comics and Graphic Novels for the fall term (ENGL 2413 “Special Topics in English” CRN 11676.  The only prerequisite is ENGL 1023 (Comp II). A related flier is attached.

Brainfuse Online Tutoring

Faculty and staff, help us spread the word.

NWACC now provides free access to an online tutoring service called Brainfuse that can be accessed anywhere.

Students who need help after the Tutoring Center has closed for the day or who are looking for tutoring from the comfort of home may find this a great option.

To access Brainfuse, students choose their preferred browser and can meet with a live tutor using an online whiteboard and text chat, so no special technology is needed!

A student tutorial can be found here to guide you through the process.

Tutors are available for many different subjects, including math and science. The tutoring service is available Monday-Friday (5-11 p.m.) and Saturday & Sunday (1-11 p.m.), but other resources, like games and flashcards, are available 24/7. To access the service, students log into My NWACC Connection on the left menu under Resources > Online Tutoring.

Work-Study Opportunities Available

Health Information Management (HIM) applications are now available on the HIM page of the NWACC website. The HIM department is currently taking applications for Fall 2015.

Blood Drive

You can make a difference! Give Blood! Summer brings increased need for blood. Your donation can make a difference. Each donor will receive a free t-shirt and free cholesterol screening. Employee Satisfaction Focus Groups

The Employee Satisfaction Task Force invites you to come to one of the focus groups designed to allow NWACC staff to share their ideas on effective communication.  Today, July 29, 2:00 – 3:00 PM in Peterson Auditorium (SGBDC 1047).  Dr. Lisa Anderson, Director of Institutional Research, will facilitate the sessions.  Come share your ideas!

American Diabetes Association

The American Diabetes Association is holding its annual cycling event on Saturday, August 22, at the Arvest Ballpark in Springdale and is needing volunteers. Any help counts and is much appreciated! Bellow are three forms, two in which list the positions available and the descriptions, and the other discussing the training day volunteers will need to attend. This year, we are participating in the Alzheimer’s Association Walk to End Alzheimer’s® to raise awareness and funds to advance the fight against Alzheimer’s disease. Currently, more than 5 million Americans have Alzheimer’s disease, and that number is expected to grow to as many as 16 million by 2050. Our future is at risk unless we change the course of this devastating disease. And there’s something you can do about it — walk with us.

Bookstore Open August 1st

Your NWACC Bookstore will be open Saturday, August 1st for the Arkansas Tax Free Holiday. Our hours of Operaton will be 10:00am to 2:00pm. If you cannot make it in store between those hours you can place an order online at http://www.nwacc.bncollege.com between Aug. 1st 12:01am to Aug. 2 11:59pm. If paying with financial aid you can still place the online order during this time frame to secure no tax on your textbooks and supplies.

Team Red Event-American Diabetes Association-ABC’s of Diabetes

The American Diabetes Association would like to invite you to join ADA  on July 30  for the ABC’s of Diabetes. If you know of anyone that would benefit from attending please invite them to join as well.

This course will introduce you to museum practices, archives, and the internal workings of public parks as well as issues in the burgeoning field of public history. This class will have guest speakers to discuss the field as well as hands on projects and historic site visits throughout the semester. See attached flier.

Tax Free Weekend

Textbooks, school supplies, some art supplies, and clothing/shoes/accessories are tax-free in Arkansas this weekend!

Library Hours August 3rd-21st

The library will be open the following hours August 3rd-21st: Monday-Thursday 8am-4:30pm Friday 8am-noon Closed Saturday and Sunday.

Academic Success Center Hours (August 3-21)

The Academic Success Center Computer Lab will be open Monday-Friday, 8am-4:30pm. Tutoring services resume August 24.

Banner/Eaglenet Outage

The Banner system (including Eaglenet) will be unavailable starting at 4:00 am Friday morning to apply mandatory financial aid patches. The outage should last four hours. This is outside the normal Thursday evening maintenance window so that it is less disruptive to the community.

All other systems, such as Blackboard, Email and myNWACC will be available during this update.

Notice of Upcoming Work: Parking Lots of GBDC and SCWT

NWACC’s Physical Plant employees will be doing maintenance on the parking lots of the Shewmaker Center for Global Business Development & Shewmaker Center for Workforce Technologies July 31  through August 2. The parking lots will be closed for vehicle and foot traffic during that time.

Comics & Graphic Novels Class Offered

NWACC is offering a special English course in Comics and Graphic Novels for the fall term (ENGL 2413 “Special Topics in English” CRN 11676.  The only prerequisite is ENGL 1023 (Comp II). A related flier is attached.

Brainfuse Online Tutoring

Faculty and staff, help us spread the word.

NWACC now provides free access to an online tutoring service called Brainfuse that can be accessed anywhere.

Students who need help after the Tutoring Center has closed for the day or who are looking for tutoring from the comfort of home may find this a great option.

To access Brainfuse, students choose their preferred browser and can meet with a live tutor using an online whiteboard and text chat, so no special technology is needed!

A student tutorial can be found here to guide you through the process.

Tutors are available for many different subjects, including math and science. The tutoring service is available Monday-Friday (5-11 p.m.) and Saturday & Sunday (1-11 p.m.), but other resources, like games and flashcards, are available 24/7. To access the service, students log into My NWACC Connection on the left menu under Resources > Online Tutoring.

The American Diabetes Association is holding its annual cycling event on Saturday, August 22, at the Arvest Ballpark in Springdale and is needing volunteers. Any help counts and is much appreciated! Bookstore Open August 1st

Your NWACC Bookstore will be open Saturday, August 1st for the Arkansas Tax Free Holiday. Our hours of Operaton will be 10:00am to 2:00pm. If you cannot make it in store between those hours you can place an order online at http://www.nwacc.bncollege.com between Aug. 1st 12:01am to Aug. 2 11:59pm. If paying with financial aid you can still place the online order during this time frame to secure no tax on your textbooks and supplies.

The Academic Success Center (ASC) is here to support you and your students! We wanted to take this opportunity share with you the many resources we have available in the ASC to support student success throughout the summer.

What do we offer? 

  • Tutoring is available at both the Bentonville Campus (BH) and the Washington County Center (WCC). The Summer II tutoring schedule is attached.
  • Online Tutoring is available to students by appointment our hours of operation (Monday-Thursday, 8 a.m.-6 p.m.). Students requesting an online tutoring session, would need to call 479-619-4241 or email: success@nwacc.edu.
  • Success Advising: If you have students who are struggling academically, with life, etc., please feel free to refer them to our offices. We want to be supportive and offer assistance when needed.
  • Full service computer lab is available Monday-Thursday, 8 a.m.-6 p.m. We are currently piloting some new “cloud-based” software and soon to be looking at integrating a “print station” to better serve the students and reduce paper costs.

ASC Summer II Information

The Academic Success Center (ASC) is here to support you and your students! We wanted to take this opportunity share with you the many resources we have available in the ASC to support student success throughout the summer.

What do we offer? 

  • Tutoring is available at both the Bentonville Campus (BH) and the Washington County Center (WCC). The Summer II tutoring schedule is attached.
  • Online Tutoring is available to students by appointment our hours of operation (Monday-Thursday, 8 a.m.-6 p.m.). Students requesting an online tutoring session, would need to call 479-619-4241 or email: success@nwacc.edu.
  • Success Advising: If you have students who are struggling academically, with life, etc., please feel free to refer them to our offices. We want to be supportive and offer assistance when needed.
  • Full service computer lab is available Monday-Thursday, 8 a.m.-6 p.m. We are currently piloting some new “cloud-based” software and soon to be looking at integrating a “print station” to better serve the students and reduce paper costs.
  • Students can purchase scantrons and check-out calculators, headsets, and textbooks for use in the ASC areas only.
  • Students can also book our study room through this page: http://library.nwacc.edu/studyrooms.html.
  • Classroom visits: if you would like for our staff to visit your class or classes to share this information, please let us know! We would be happy to do so.

Work Underway in Several Burns Hall Classrooms

Painting, carpeting and tile work are expected to be done starting next week in several Burns Hall classrooms. Work will begin in east wing classrooms 1018,1020,1007,1008 on July 7, and is expected to be completed on July 23.

GENERAL ANNOUNCEMENTS:

Notice of Upcoming Work: Parking Lots of GBDC and SCWT

NWACC’s Physical Plant employees will be doing maintenance on the parking lots of the Shewmaker Center for Global Business Development & Shewmaker Center for Workforce Technologies July 31  through August 2. The parking lots will be closed for vehicle and foot traffic during that time.

Comics & Graphic Novels Class Offered

NWACC is offering a special English course in Comics and Graphic Novels for the fall term (ENGL 2413 “Special Topics in English” CRN 11676.  The only prerequisite is ENGL 1023 (Comp II). A related flier is attached.

Brainfuse Online Tutoring

Faculty and staff, help us spread the word.

NWACC now provides free access to an online tutoring service called Brainfuse that can be accessed anywhere.

Students who need help after the Tutoring Center has closed for the day or who are looking for tutoring from the comfort of home may find this a great option.

To access Brainfuse, students choose their preferred browser and can meet with a live tutor using an online whiteboard and text chat, so no special technology is needed!

A student tutorial can be found here to guide you through the process.

Tutors are available for many different subjects, including math and science. The tutoring service is available Monday-Friday (5-11 p.m.) and Saturday & Sunday (1-11 p.m.), but other resources, like games and flashcards, are available 24/7. To access the service, students log into My NWACC Connection on the left menu under Resources > Online Tutoring.

Work-Study Opportunities Available

Health Information Management Applications

Health Information Management (HIM) applications are now available on the HIM page of the NWACC website. The HIM department is currently taking applications for Fall 2015.

Blood Drive

You can make a difference! Give Blood! Summer brings increased need for blood. Your donation can make a difference. Each donor will receive a free t-shirt and free cholesterol screening. The drive will be held July 30, 2015 from 10:00 – 3:00 in SC 108 B. Contact Becky Hudson at rhudson1@nwacc.edu to register. See attached flier.

Employee Satisfaction Focus Groups

The Employee Satisfaction Task Force invites you to come to one of the focus groups designed to allow NWACC staff to share their ideas on effective communication.   Choose the session that best fits your schedule: Tuesday, July 21, 10:00 – 11:00 AM in SC 108 or Wednesday, July 29, 2:00 – 3:00 PM in Peterson Auditorium (SGBDC 1047).  Dr. Lisa Anderson, Director of Institutional Research, will facilitate the sessions.  Come share your ideas!

THIS WEEK AT NWACC:

Informational Session Planned Regarding Costa Rica Trip

The NWACC Foundation will present a free informational session on July 16 at NorthWest Arkansas Community College regarding “Tropical Costa Rica,” a nine-day trip to the Central American nation planned for 2016.

The Costa Rica trip will be Feb. 20-28, 2016. Through a partnership with Collette, a respected travel organization, a portion of the travel fare supports the NWACC Foundation. The tour highlights include San Jose, Doka Coffee Estate, Guanacaste, Monteverde Cloud Forest, Arenal Volcano, Lake Arenal Cruise, Cano Nego Refuge, and Tortuguero National Park. The nine-day trip includes 14 meals. An optional four-day, three-night Jungle Adventure post-tour extension is available.

Individuals wanting to know more about the trip or who are ready to sign up for the travel opportunity are welcome to attend the informational session. Those interested in attending the session can RSVP to Jean Anderson at the NWACC Foundation at 479-619-4208 or janderson@nwacc.edu.

Each week a different topic will be covered, and the emphasis will be on sharing little snippets of information (tips and tricks or did you know?) that might be helpful to employees.  The sessions will be about 20 – 30 minutes long, and each session will be offered twice a week on different days.
