GENERAL ANNOUNCEMENTS

Jeans Week for Domestic & Sexual Violence Awareness (NEW)

Next week, June 5-9th, will be our monthly Jeans Week for Domestic and Sexual Violence Awareness. You are invited to wear jeans for a minimum donation of $10. All money collected will be divided between the NWA Women’s Shelter and the NWA Center for Sexual Assault. Since December, we have raised over $1,800 – let’s keep up the good work. Please take donations to Danielle Schader, 2nd floor of the Student Center SC 225 I, or Jamie Schraeder in SC 225 E. If you are in a position that already allows you to wear jeans, you may still make a donation if you would like. Also, please use your discretion during Jeans Week when meeting with off-campus individuals or groups.

Contracts 

During the period of May 26, 2017 through June 2, 2017, all contracts, MOU, SOW, etc. should be directed to Lindsey Gilbert, Risk Management Department in the CHP Building 3rd Floor. Food Recovery Launch Event 

Join us for the launch of our food recovery project at Brightwater: A Center for the Study of Food!  NorthWest Arkansas Community College will celebrate joining The Campus Kitchens Project and the beginning of our food recovery initiative on Wednesday, May 31st! Through Brightwater, our students and community will work toward eliminating food waste and hunger in Northwest Arkansas.

Celebrate the launch of the Campus Kitchen at NorthWest Arkansas Community College, one of more than 60 Campus Kitchens across the country working to end food waste and food insecurity, and hear about Brightwater’s vision for food waste reduction in NWA. Learn about our partnership with Copia and
discover how you  – food businesses, community volunteers, and local nonprofits – can be a part of our initiative!

Community Cooking Shift

Volunteers will prepare healthy meals for our community using recovered food from local partners including Seeds that FeedDowntown Rogers Farmers Market and packaging provided by Reynolds Kitchens.  Attendees will have the opportunity to learn how to make healthy and delicious recipes while feeding those in need!

The summer hours for the Food Court are as follows:

Re-Charge U – Monday -Thursday – 8:00 – 4:30

Lindy’s College Cafe – Monday – Thursday – 11:00 – 2:00

Oasis Coffee Shop – Monday – Thursday – 8:00 – 2:00 (Both SCGBDC and SC).

Chick-fil-A will no longer be part of the food court. We are currently working on finding a replacement to take their space so stay tuned!

Year End Travel Deadline 

Please finalize your FY 17 travel plans and submit all new requests to the Travel Accountant by June 5th. Only emergencies will be considered after this date. This includes travel and mileage reimbursements. All of these expenses must be expensed in the fiscal year they were incurred. Concealed Carry Task Force Meeting Minutes Now Available

In response to the new Arkansas State Law Act 562, NWACC has formed a Conceal Carry Task Force to ensure we are in full compliance by September 1, 2017. The notes to the task force meetings are published on your “My NWACC Connection” (Employee –My Work). 2017-2018 Construction Technology Scholarship Packet Available! 

Attention Construction Technology Students! The Construction Technology scholarship packet is now available for students to apply. There are six scholarship opportunities for the 2017-2018 academic school year within the packet, and the deadline to apply is 4:30 on Thursday, June 29th. NWACC 2017-2018 Anderson Family Scholarship Application NOW AVAILABLE! 

To qualify to apply, students must be enrolled at NWACC during the 2017-2018 academic school year, have a minimum college GPA of 2.0 (freshman must have a minimum composite test score of 19 on the ACT, COMPASS/Accuplacer scores at college level, or 600 GED score), must be in (currently or in the past) the Saving Grace program for a minimum of 3 months, and preference will be given to students with demonstrated financial need. Nursing Program Important Announcement 

The Track III (elongated) option has been eliminated, effective immediately to act in accordance to the Accreditation Commission for Education in nursing recommendations, and due to the lower NCLEX pass rates from this track. Additionally, Bridge to RN will be an LPN to RN track beginning in the spring of 2018. Changes have been made to the admission process beginning in Fall of 2017 for the LPN to RN track and spring 2018 for Track I and Track II. Please monitor the Nursing Department website for updates. The new timelines for the application periods for Track I, Track II, and LPN to RN are as follows:  Track I Application period: February 1st thru March 1st – Pre-requisite courses must be completed by the spring semester. Upon acceptance, students would begin nursing classes the following fall – Track II  Application period: November 1st thru December 1st – Pre-requisite courses must be completed by the fall semester. Upon acceptance, students would begin nursing classes the following summer – LPN to RN o Application period: *October 1st thru November 1st – Pre-requisite courses must be completed by the summer semester. Upon acceptance, students would begin nursing classes the following spring *the LPN to RN application period for fall 2017 will be conducted during this timeframe for Fall 2017. Be advised that effective Fall 2018, the application period for the LPN to RN sequence will change to September 1st – October 1st. Students should be sure to schedule an appointment with the Health Professions academic advisor to discuss their academic outlook with respect to their preferred track. As mentioned above, the nursing department has updated the nursing webpage to reflect the most current, accurate information: https://www.nwacc.edu/web/programs_nursing/. Brief screenings are the quickest way to determine if you or someone you care about should connect with a mental health professional – it’s a checkup from your neck up. Naturals Faculty Appreciation Night

In celebration of the end of the 2016/2017 school year, the Naturals are excited to invite staff members and their families to take advantage of a $5 Dugout Premium Ticket (normally $11 each) on Saturday, May 27th, 2017.  All employees may receive this discount.  In addition to receiving an extremely discounted ticket to the game, the first 1,000 kids to enter the ballpark will receive a Strike-Themed Jersey courtesy of Tyson Foods, Inc.  The Naturals will play the Midland Rockhounds and the game starts at 6:05 pm.

NWACC Pride 1st Meeting! 

Join us for the first NWACC Pride Meeting on May 25th at 1pm in the Student Center, room 108. The purpose of this organization is to educate, advocate for, and provide opportunities for students, faculty and staff at NorthWest Arkansas Community College who identify as LGBTQ+ and their allies. PRIDE is a collective of safe and welcoming college members who focus on the issues facing individuals on campus, in the community and in society, who identify as LGBTQ+. The goal of NWACC PRIDE is to create a more supportive and inclusive campus climate that encourages the success of all people regardless of sex, gender identity, or sexual orientation. Attention Faculty and Staff!! If you submitted an order to rent regalia for the upcoming commencement, it is in store and ready for pick up/payment! Please remember to have it returned back to the bookstore no later than May 25th.

NWACC Chamber Orchestra

NWACC Chamber Orchestra has openings for all string players, including violin, viola, ‘cello, and string bass. Non-students of all ages within the community are welcome, but we have a limited number of scholarships available for both music majors, as well as non-music majors. Orchestra meets every Wednesday 6:00-8:30 PM beginning spring semester 2017.

Food Recovery Launch Event (NEW)

Join us for the launch of our food recovery project at Brightwater: A Center for the Study of Food!  NorthWest Arkansas Community College will celebrate joining The Campus Kitchens Project and the beginning of our food recovery initiative on Wednesday, May 31st! Through Brightwater, our students and community will work towards eliminating food waste and hunger in Northwest Arkansas.

The summer hours for the Food Court are as follows: Re-Charge U – Monday -Thursday – 8:00 – 4:30, Lindy’s College Cafe – Monday – Thursday – 11:00 – 2:00, Oasis Coffee Shop – Monday – Thursday – 8:00 – 2:00 (Both SCGBDC and SC). Oasis will be closed this week and will return on Tuesday, May 30th. Chick-fil-A will no longer be part of the food court. We are currently working on finding a replacement to take their space so stay tuned!

Naturals Faculty Appreciation Night

In celebration of the end of the 2016/2017 school year, the Naturals are excited to invite staff members and their families to take advantage of a $5 Dugout Premium Ticket (normally $11 each) on Saturday, May 27th, 2017.  All employees may receive this discount.  In addition to receiving an extremely discounted ticket to the game, the first 1,000 kids to enter the ballpark will receive a Strike-Themed Jersey courtesy of Tyson Foods, Inc.  The Naturals will play the Midland Rockhounds and the game starts at 6:05 pm.

In response to the new Arkansas State Law Act 562, NWACC has formed a Conceal Carry Task Force to ensure we are in full compliance by September 1, 2017. Attention Construction Technology Students! The Construction Technology scholarship packet is now available for students to apply. NWACC 2017-2018 Anderson Family Scholarship Application NOW AVAILABLE! 

To qualify to apply, students must be enrolled at NWACC during the 2017-2018 academic school year, have a minimum college GPA of 2.0 (freshman must have a minimum composite test score of 19 on the ACT, COMPASS/Accuplacer scores at college level, or 600 GED score), must be in (currently or in the past) the Saving Grace program for a minimum of 3 months, and preference will be given to students with demonstrated financial need. Nursing Program Important Announcement 

The Track III (elongated) option has been eliminated, effective immediately to act in accordance to the Accreditation Commission for Education in nursing recommendations, and due to the lower NCLEX pass rates from this track. Additionally, Bridge to RN will be an LPN to RN track beginning in the spring of 2018. Changes have been made to the admission process beginning in Fall of 2017 for the LPN to RN track and spring 2018 for Track I and Track II. Please monitor the Nursing Department website for updates. The new timelines for the application periods for Track I, Track II, and LPN to RN are as follows:  Track I Application period: February 1st thru March 1st – Pre-requisite courses must be completed by the spring semester. Upon acceptance, students would begin nursing classes the following fall – Track II  Application period: November 1st thru December 1st – Pre-requisite courses must be completed by the fall semester. Upon acceptance, students would begin nursing classes the following summer – LPN to RN o Application period: *October 1st thru November 1st – Pre-requisite courses must be completed by the summer semester. Donations for Refugees 

The Student Alliance for Refugees (SAFR), an NWACC service learning project is collecting travel size toiletries, school supplies, and flip- flops to take to refugees and other displaced people in Greece. Dr. Sevin Gallo, faculty advisor for SAFR, and world civilization students traveling to Greece May 22-June 7 for an NWACC study abroad program are saving room in their suitcases for supplies to give to aid agencies in Athens, Greece. They are taking the supplies to City Plaza, a group that transforms vacant office buildings into refugee apartments and organizes support for displaced people, and Alex, a volunteer group that distributes food and supplies to homeless people in Athens. You may drop off supplies at Dr. Gallo’s office, Burns Hall 1424, or contact her at 216-253-5648 (cell) to coordinate a pick-up.

NWACC 2017-2018 Anderson Family Scholarship Application NOW AVAILABLE! 

To qualify to apply, students must be enrolled at NWACC during the 2017-2018 academic school year, have a minimum college GPA of 2.0 (freshman must have a minimum composite test score of 19 on the ACT, COMPASS/Accuplacer scores at college level, or 600 GED score), must be in (currently or in the past) the Saving Grace program for a minimum of 3 months, and preference will be given to students with demonstrated financial need. Nursing Program Important Announcement 

The Track III (elongated) option has been eliminated, effective immediately to act in accordance to the Accreditation Commission for Education in nursing recommendations, and due to the lower NCLEX pass rates from this track. Additionally, Bridge to RN will be an LPN to RN track beginning in the spring of 2018. Changes have been made to the admission process beginning in Fall of 2017 for the LPN to RN track and spring 2018 for Track I and Track II. Please monitor the Nursing Department website for updates. The new timelines for the application periods for Track I, Track II, and LPN to RN are as follows:  Track I Application period: February 1st thru March 1st – Pre-requisite courses must be completed by the spring semester. Upon acceptance, students would begin nursing classes the following fall – Track II  Application period: November 1st thru December 1st – Pre-requisite courses must be completed by the fall semester. Upon acceptance, students would begin nursing classes the following summer – LPN to RN o Application period: *October 1st thru November 1st – Pre-requisite courses must be completed by the summer semester. Upon acceptance, students would begin nursing classes the following spring *the LPN to RN application period for fall 2017 will be conducted during this timeframe for Fall 2017. NWACC Chamber Orchestra

NWACC Chamber Orchestra has openings for all string players, including violin, viola, ‘cello, and string bass. Non-students of all ages within the community are welcome, but we have a limited number of scholarships available for both music majors, as well as non-music majors. Orchestra meets every Wednesday 6:00-8:30 PM beginning spring semester 2017.

Naturals Faculty Appreciation Night

NWACC Pride 1st Meeting! 

Join us for the first NWACC Pride Meeting on May 25th at 1pm in the Student Center, room 108. The purpose of this organization is to educate, advocate for, and provide opportunities for students, faculty and staff at NorthWest Arkansas Community College who identify as LGBTQ+ and their allies. PRIDE is a collective of safe and welcoming college members who focus on the issues facing individuals on campus, in the community and in society, who identify as LGBTQ+. The goal of NWACC PRIDE is to create a more supportive and inclusive campus climate that encourages the success of all people regardless of sex, gender identity, or sexual orientation. Please finalize your FY 17 travel plans this month and submit all new requests to the Travel Accountant by June 5th. Only emergencies will be considered after this date. This includes travel and mileage reimbursements. All of these expenses must be expensed in the fiscal year they were incurred. Donations for Refugees 

The Student Alliance for Refugees (SAFR), an NWACC service learning project is collecting travel size toiletries, school supplies, and flip- flops to take to refugees and other displaced people in Greece. Dr. Sevin Gallo, faculty advisor for SAFR, and world civilization students traveling to Greece May 22-June 7 for an NWACC study abroad program are saving room in their suitcases for supplies to give to aid agencies in Athens, Greece. They are taking the supplies to City Plaza, a group that transforms vacant office buildings into refugee apartments and organizes support for displaced people, and Alex, a volunteer group that distributes food and supplies to homeless people in Athens. You may drop off supplies at Dr. Gallo’s office, Burns Hall 1424, or contact her at 216-253-5648 (cell) to coordinate a pick-up.

Join us for a free community education seminar on Thursday, May 18 from 11:30am – 1:00pm at Peterson Auditorium in the Shewmaker Center for Global Business Development. Naturals Faculty Appreciation Night (NEW)

In celebration of the end of the 2016/2017 school year, the Naturals are excited to invite staff members and their families to take advantage of a $5 Dugout Premium Ticket (normally $11 each) on Saturday, May 27th, 2017.  All employees may receive this discount.  In addition to receiving an extremely discounted ticket to the game, the first 1,000 kids to enter the ballpark will receive a Strike-Themed Jersey courtesy of Tyson Foods, Inc.  The Naturals will play the Midland Rockhounds and the game starts at 6:05 pm.

NWACC Pride 1st Meeting! 

Join us for the first NWACC Pride Meeting on May 25th at 1pm in the Student Center, room 108. The purpose of this organization is to educate, advocate for, and provide opportunities for students, faculty and staff at NorthWest Arkansas Community College who identify as LGBTQ+ and their allies. PRIDE is a collective of safe and welcoming college members who focus on the issues facing individuals on campus, in the community and in society, who identify as LGBTQ+. The goal of NWACC PRIDE is to create a more supportive and inclusive campus climate that encourages the success of all people regardless of sex, gender identity, or sexual orientation. Year End Travel Deadline 

Please finalize your FY 17 travel plans this month and submit all new requests to the Travel Accountant by June 5th. Only emergencies will be considered after this date. This includes travel and mileage reimbursements. All of these expenses must be expensed in the fiscal year they were incurred. Donations for Refugees 

The Student Alliance for Refugees (SAFR), an NWACC service learning project is collecting travel size toiletries, school supplies, and flip- flops to take to refugees and other displaced people in Greece. Dr. Sevin Gallo, faculty advisor for SAFR, and world civilization students traveling to Greece May 22-June 7 for an NWACC study abroad program are saving room in their suitcases for supplies to give to aid agencies in Athens, Greece. They are taking the supplies to City Plaza, a group that transforms vacant office buildings into refugee apartments and organizes support for displaced people, and Alex, a volunteer group that distributes food and supplies to homeless people in Athens. You may drop off supplies at Dr. Gallo’s office, Burns Hall 1424, or contact her at 216-253-5648 (cell) to coordinate a pick-up.

Free Community Educational Seminar – Getting the Most Out of Your Social Security Benefits

Join us for a free community education seminar on Thursday, May 18 from 11:30am – 1:00pm at Peterson Auditorium in the Shewmaker Center for Global Business Development. Program highlights include: (1) understanding the value of social security; (2) how it works; (3) solvency; (4) when to begin taking benefits; (5) working and receiving benefits; and (6) maximizing benefits. Attention Construction Technology Students! The Construction Technology scholarship packet is now available for students to apply. NWACC 2017-2018 Anderson Family Scholarship Application NOW AVAILABLE! 

To qualify to apply, students must be enrolled at NWACC during the 2017-2018 academic school year, have a minimum college GPA of 2.0 (freshman must have a minimum composite test score of 19 on the ACT, COMPASS/Accuplacer scores at college level, or 600 GED score), must be in (currently or in the past) the Saving Grace program for a minimum of 3 months, and preference will be given to students with demonstrated financial need. Nursing Program Important Announcement 

The Track III (elongated) option has been eliminated, effective immediately to act in accordance to the Accreditation Commission for Education in nursing recommendations, and due to the lower NCLEX pass rates from this track. Additionally, Bridge to RN will be an LPN to RN track beginning in the spring of 2018. Changes have been made to the admission process beginning in Fall of 2017 for the LPN to RN track and spring 2018 for Track I and Track II. Please monitor the Nursing Department website for updates. The new timelines for the application periods for Track I, Track II, and LPN to RN are as follows:  Track I Application period: February 1st thru March 1st – Pre-requisite courses must be completed by the spring semester. Upon acceptance, students would begin nursing classes the following fall – Track II  Application period: November 1st thru December 1st – Pre-requisite courses must be completed by the fall semester. Upon acceptance, students would begin nursing classes the following summer – LPN to RN o Application period: *October 1st thru November 1st – Pre-requisite courses must be completed by the summer semester. Upon acceptance, students would begin nursing classes the following spring *the LPN to RN application period for fall 2017 will be conducted during this timeframe for Fall 2017. Be advised that effective Fall 2018, the application period for the LPN to RN sequence will change to September 1st – October 1st. Students should be sure to schedule an appointment with the Health Professions academic advisor to discuss their academic outlook with respect to their preferred track. As mentioned above, the nursing department has updated the nursing webpage to reflect the most current, accurate information: https://www.nwacc.edu/web/programs_nursing/. Please review the changes posted to the nursing website, as it may aid in answering any possible questions. Brief screenings are the quickest way to determine if you or someone you care about should connect with a mental health professional – it’s a checkup from your neck up. NWACC Chamber Orchestra

NWACC Chamber Orchestra has openings for all string players, including violin, viola, ‘cello, and string bass. Non-students of all ages within the community are welcome, but we have a limited number of scholarships available for both music majors, as well as non-music majors. Orchestra meets every Wednesday 6:00-8:30 PM beginning spring semester 2017.
