The Greenhouse at Brightwater will host a ribbon-cutting and grand opening today at noon. The event is hosted by Brightwater and Cobblestone Farms. Brightwater is located at 801 S.E. 8th Street in Bentonville.
Congratulations to the team representing NWACC at Scrabble Wars on Saturday! The NWACC Skolars team won in the traditional category to take home the plaque as 2018 champions. The event benefited the Literacy Council of Benton County.

NorthWest Arkansas Community College’s nursing program has been ranked as one of the best in Arkansas!
NWACC’s program earned a#4 ranking from RegisteredNursing.org : https://www.registerednursing.org/state/arkansas/#rankings
Nursing programs were assessed on several factors which represent how well a program supports students towards licensure and beyond. The organization analyzed past and present first-time NCLEX-RN “pass-rates” – weighted by year.

Valentine’s Day is only a couple of weeks away, so make this year extra special with some “sweet” deals that Gamma Beta Phi has available.
Starting January 28, pre-orders will be accepted for candy bouquets in various sizes with prices that can fit in everyone’s budget. Direct table sales will be on February 13 and 14 from 10am until 2 p.m. in front of the Academic Success Center in Burns Hall. Specific details for ordering can be found on the attached flier and attached order form.
Nominations are being accepted for honorary degrees to be presented at NWACC’s 2018 commencement.
Any trustee, faculty member, alumnus, or interested individual may nominate an individual for this honor.
Completed nominations must be submitted by March 2.
Thanks to all the wonderful NWACC employees, students, and supporters, the NWACC Food Pantry has been operated solely on a donation basis.
In the 2.5 years we have been open we have never had to purchase food and have served more than 500 students, employees, and their families. We are once again looking to our NWACC family for donations. The pantry currently needs the following items:
- Canned fruit
- Gluten-free items
- Meals in a can such as Chef Boyardee ravioli and beef-a-roni
- Canned meat such as Spam and chicken (we still have plenty of tuna)
- Individual serving size snacks such as pretzels, snack cakes, chips, etc.
We also have some dietary needs that require rice products.
We have also recently started stocking personal hygiene items such as shampoo and are in need of shampoo, conditioner, and men’s deodorant.

- Marshallese Project, Tuesday., January 30 at 3 p.m. and Wednesday. January 31, 430 p.m., a project sponsored by Dr. April Brown, that focuses on the culture of the Marshallese and advocacy efforts in NWA
- Sustainability Project, Thursday., Feb. 1, 3 p.m., a project devoted to NWACC sustainability initiatives, such as the Monarch Butterfly Garden and with partner Teresa Sidwell, Environmental Officer of the Benton County Environmental Division
- Food Insecurity Project, Monday, Feb. 5, 3 p.m., a project in partnership with the Culinary Arts Program to reclaim foods to be cooked for folks in need in NWA, organic gardening concepts, nutrition, and the impact of fast food industries on nutrition and workers
- Arkansas History Project, Tuesday, Feb. 6, 3 p.m., a project in partnership with National History Day, sponsored by Dr. Jami Forrester, to serve as judges for National History Day, March 3, and also to work with the Benton County Archives to transcribe historical documents (1857-1869 period)
- Veterans Project, Wednesday, Feb. 7, 3 p.m., a project devoted to Veterans issues and raising funds for the NWACC Veterans Scholarship
- Native American Project, Thursday, Feb. 8, 3 p.m., a project devoted to understanding the culture and history of Cherokees and other Native Americans and in partnership with the Cherokee Immersion School of which supply drives are done each semester.

Educators are invited to attend Thinking Money: A Financial Expedition Educator’s Workshop at Bentonville Public Library on Tuesday, February 6, from 4-6 p.m.
Thinking Money is a traveling exhibit that will be on view at BPL from Saturday, February 10 to Wednesday, March 14.
Dr. Rita Littrell, Director of the Bessie B. Moore Center for Economic Education at the University of Arkansas, will be the keynote speaker. With a goal of integrating the exhibition and financial literacy into the classroom, the workshop will address:
- The use of current financial literacy related educational materials, fiction and nonfiction print resources as well as digital resources, in a cross-curricular approach
- Hands-on activities that engage students and encourage personal understanding
- Information for educators on the financial literacy resources available via the Bessie B. Moore Center for Economic Education at the University of Arkansas.
Thinking Money is designed to teach tweens, teens and the adults in their lives about financial literacy topics in a way that is not only understandable, but also fun. Through an adventure-themed storyline, interactive iPad content and other fun activities, the exhibition explores themes such as wants vs. needs, preparing for a rainy/sunny day, avoiding financial fraud and imagining your future self.
The Arkansas Department of Education has approved full workshop attendance for two hours of professional development credit, but drop-in attendance is welcome. Registration is not required for this workshop. The American Library Association Public Programs Office in collaboration with the FINRA Investor Education Foundation, whose support made this exhibition possible, developed Thinking Money.

NorthWest Arkansas Community College is going to Haiti’s Cap Haitien in June 2018. Travel dates are June 16-25, 2018.
Cap Haitien is a tourist city in northern Haiti. It is the home of the Citadelle Henri Christophe, the ruins of the Sans-Souci Palace, both UNESCO World Heritage sites.
The 9-day trip includes travel to Miami from Bentonville airport (XNA to MIA), one night in Miami, and a direct flight to Cap Haitien (CAP) the following morning. We spend 7 days in Cap Haitien, then return from Cap Haitien to Miami, spend one night in Miami, then fly from Miami to Bentonville.
In addition to visiting the Citadelle and Sans Souci, participants will take a walking tour of Cap Haitien’s 19th century gingerbread architecture, as well as spend time at Paradise Beach (Plage du Paradis). Participants will learn some French, some Haitian Creole, and return with a sharper appreciation for Haiti and its people. This short study abroad is also practical for those with demands from work, family, and other obligations.
The well-known and respected tour agency Voyages Lumieres is arranging in-country accommodations, as well as visits to historical and academic sites.

NWACC’s Food Pantry provides help to NWACC students, faculty and staff throughout the year.
Food will be distributed on every other Wednesday and Thursday, beginning January 24, 2018. A three-day supply of food is given.
Applications for assistance can be picked up at the Student Information Center in the Becky Paneitz Student Center or at the Office of Student Life in room 225 H in the Becky Paneitz Student Center.
All persons requesting assistance must have an initial application on file. They will then be required to complete a distribution request form each time they request assistance.
Distribution Request forms must be turned in at the Office of Student Life no later than 3:30 p.m. on the Monday before distribution.
In emergency cases, food may be distributed outside of normal distribution times.

The Inter-Club Council, (ICC), is a group established by the Student Ambassador and Government Association that includes representatives from every campus club.

The Math Center is offering Graphing Calculator Introduction Workshops (for Beginning Algebra, Intermediate Algebra, and other students new to the calculators) the next two weeks:

The Tutoring Center is looking to hire a tutor through the work-study program! Position pays $10/hour and is for 16 hours/week.

The Office of Student Success is looking for a work study! The position is up to 15 hours per week.
Job duties include checking students in for appointments and tutoring, directing students to the appropriate office, and assisting with outreach communication.
